.LaminatION
& ENCAPSULATION
|
Lamination, in general, is defined as a process performed for the purpose of preserving and protecting by means of applying a laminate sheet (Clear matte of gloss) over a document or photo. We offer standard versions of laminate material, as well as products that can vary in sheet thickness and finish, depending on your purpose. Lamination and Encapsulation can not be removed in most cases.
Typically, the terms Laminating and Encapsulating are used in the same context. When you see an ID Card that has been "laminated", it' is usually encapsulated which, in effect, encloses and seals it. With that being the "norm", there are times when simply laminating "over" an item is preformed without enclosing it. We can perform lamination either way. ·
- Encapsulating is a style of lamination, but specifically, it is the process of enclosing a document or photograph entirely within sheet laminate. Encapsulating is usually preformed by inserting the document or photo into a lamination pouch (clear matte or gloss) and finalizing with a heat process. This provides additional protection and strength and can also improve appearance on the document or photo face up side. Documents are typically encapsulated (enclosed), whereas photographs are typically laminated over and not enclosed in a pouch.

- Lamination
is the process of
applying a specified sheet
of laminate (clear matte
or gloss) over an existing
document or print while
sealing with a heat
process. This provides
protection, strength and
can improve appearance. Lamination
itself is usually used in
conjunction with mounting
your item on a substrate
such as poster board, foam
board or a stiffer series
of mounting media such as
"Gatorfoam" or
"Ryno-Board". We
can surely apply a
laminate over a photo or
document in lieu of
mounting.

.MOUNTING
|
Mounting is simply the process of mounting an item on a specified substrate. We offer the mounting of documents and prints on a variety of substrates to suit your needs. Mounting documents and prints can be performed with or without the use of lamination. There are many occasions where you might want an item mounted without lamination. Such instances are that of adding rigid strength to the back of a large photograph, sign, or document without a protective lamination layer on
top.
We also offer the additional option of mounting and lamination together in one single pass through our machines. This process provides all the advantages mentioned above. This process has two methods that we use and the selection is dependent on the final product size. With the mounting and lamination of single or multiple items on a board less than 36" x 48", we use a standard mounting pouch board.
Mounting substrate boards, foam boards, and pouch boards are available in several thicknesses, colors, and finishes. Some such thicknesses are 3/16", 3/8", 1/4" and 1'2". Available colors are typically reserved to black and white and finishes are available in gloss, matte or luster. Check for availability with us as some items are special orders and require a short lead time.

RISKS
|
We provide the utmost care when handling and processing client materials, however, lamination is a permanent process and there are risks. The process is the overlaying and sealing of an item and the outcome will ultimately depend on your item's media characteristics which are related to inks, pigments, dyes, paper types, etc. When applicable, it is advised to use a copy of an original document, photo, or artwork in order to assure that it can be replaced if necessary.
All lamination and mounting of customer supplied original (one off) media will require the signing of a disclaimer. We will be happy to scan or reproduce an original piece in lieu of the original, provided all copyright laws have been observed. We will not reproduce any copyrighted material without the expressed written consent of the original
